Thomas McErlean is our new agent on the ground in Perth. Since arriving in Perth he’s been working in Heavy Diesel Mechanics. He brings a wealth of experience in Diesel remapping and mechanics from Northern Ireland where he worked in the industry for 3-4 years.
How long have you worked with DPS?
I moved out to Perth from Northern Ireland a couple of years ago and I’ve been working with DPS since Christmas 2018.
What kind of engines were you remapping back in Northern Ireland?
All types of vehicles - utes, trucks, all agricultural gear, and cars, everything really.
What’s the difference between what you’re seeing here vs. what you dealt with in Northern Ireland?
The size of the equipment here is much bigger - much bigger engines.
How’s business shaping up for you?
I’ve been working for DPS for about 6 months and clients are really enjoying the results we’re achieving. Most of my customers at the moment have been getting trucks remapped, but we’re attending the Fieldays here in August and I’m looking forward to talking to people about what we could achieve for them with agricultural machinery remaps too.
What kind of feedback have you had so far?
I’m getting really good feedback from clients and some of my clients are getting more than one vehicle remapped which is always a sign that they like the results. They're very happy with the extra horsepower and whatever savings they’re enjoying from fuel or other costs reducing.
Have you got any specific examples of happy clients that you could share?
I had a client recently who contacted me to tell me how happy he was with the remap of his truck. He sent it on a haulage run up North alongside another truck, and by the time both trucks got back to Perth he’d saved $430 worth of fuel on the truck that we’d remapped for him. He was really pleased with the result.
What’s your favourite remap at the moment?
We’re getting great results from Mack Triton trucks so they would definitely be my favourite at the moment.
